About UsThis website was created in response to the looming water crisis that South Africa is facing. Watershedding may well occur in the next 5 years, which would add pressure to our water systems.
As a water scarce country, we have already poured resources in determining the quality of our riverine and drinking water systems. The prevalence of our mining industry means that Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) and the heavy metal content is of great concern. The failing municipal plants mean that we have focused on the biological load of our water (coliforms and e-coli).... But what about the fact that we are an agricultural country, with a fast urbanising population, meaning that we need to focus on the silent, longer term killers such as Endocrine Disruptors (ECDs), Personal Care Products, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides. At the same time, the government is pushing to industrialise the country, thus our water systems will be faced with even more chemicals in the near future. Yet no-one seems to have noticed.... |
